Adjustable oak outdoor chair steeped in the French modernism.
Circa 1950's.
"The Mid-Century Modern movement was rooted in functionality, simplicity, and elegance. Earlier many designers of the Bauhaus and Le Corbusier championed the concept that good design could be for everyone, this filtered into the ideology of mid-century designers".
This outdoor chair is an example of the post war revolution of modern design. The reed seated chair can be adjusted in three comfortable positions; upright, relaxed and reclining.
I have seen these chairs referenced as Le Corbusier in other listings, I can't personally authenticate this. The quality of the piece however is undeniable.
Although I have described this as an outdoor chair, I also see it fitting perfectly inside as well.
The positioning is easy adjustable with a slotting and locking system:
Position upright, Height 100 cm, Depth 62 cm, Seat Height 43 cm
Position relaxed, Height 91 cm, Depth 75 cm, Seat Height 37 cm
Position reclined, Height 70 cm, Depth 62 cm, Seat Height 26 cm.
This is in good condition with all mechanisms working. There is some wear to the reed chair, and general wear to the wood in the form of scuffs to the feet. It is very sturdy and in great condition for its age.
This is a very rare chair, the few I have found online reach upwards of £1200 a piece.
