Early 20th Century Nupe tribal stool or small table carved from one solid block of hardwood. With a intricate carved star top and standing on 6 legs, these tables are often called “elephant tables”. The Nupe people (pronounced noo-pay) live in the northern region of Nigeria.

African tribal stools such as this one from the Nupe are an art form, with carefully designed patterns and graceful legs and are often presented by grooms to their brides or serve as symbols of prestige during important meetings. Would make a great occasional/coffee table or stool.
