A superb hammered Pewter footed vessel or bowl designed by Archibald Knox
(1864 – 1933) for Liberty and Co.
Designed in the Celtic Revival style which Knox was so well known for.
Knox was a remarkable designer who played a pivotal role in the Arts and Crafts, British Art Nouveau, and Celtic Revival movements in Britain at the turn of the 20th century.
This simplistic design relies on the clean lines and quality of materials.
The body of the piece has been made in hammered Pewter - stamped on the base with ENGLISH PEWTER - 01128. The feet are designed in a very simplistic modernist style indicative of the Liberty and Co signature.
A beautifully decorative piece of history. Rare to find these for sale and can be seen in the V&A collections.
